THE TANK MUSEUM

Military-historical museum of armored vehicles and armament was created in 1972, on the base of reach armor collection result of 40-year-work of Central Armour research institute (NII BT). For a long tine museum was accessible only for army and industry specialists, and sometimes for organized excursion groups, staying one of the most secret museums of the world. Only about 10 years ago museum was opened for public.
One have to remember, that until 1975 all collection was stored on open air, suffering from rains and snow, and sometimes from cannibalism - seems like some people threat vehicles as a good source of everything from bolts and nuts to complete auxiliary engines. But generally collection was well-preserved, some runners was assigned to crews that was obligated to keep them in order, some other vehicles was conservated for long storage with liberal use of paint and grease. From one side, it was harmful for original interior & exterior colors, but after all it makes us able to restore them now. In 1974 present halls (standard army hangars) was build, and collection is now protected from weather.
Museum collection is still growing not only by army write-offs, international museum exchange an gifts (we got Swedish STRV-103B this way) but also by recovering vehicles from Russian battlefields ( recently obtained T-70 and two T-34-76).
